Biography
Gianluca Pastorelli studied at the University of Milan, Italy, where he obtained a MSc in Natural Sciences and a postgraduate degree in Geoarchaeology and Archaeometry. He was awarded a PhD in Conservation Science by the University of Bologna, Italy, after completing a project on the degradation of archaeological Baltic amber at the Royal Danish Academy/National Museum of Denmark. Before joining the Conservation and Art Technological Studies Laboratory (CATS) at the National Gallery of Denmark, Gianluca held a research assistant appointment at University College London, UK, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, US, focusing his research on the characterisation of physicochemical properties of organic and inorganic materials related to archaeology and art.
