The research activity, developed through individual and collective studies and as a Tutor of several Ph. D. and degree thesis, is mainly focused on the on the use of surveying and digital representation techniques for the documentation and the geometrical analysis of Historical monuments and artefacts.
Laser scanning and photogrammetric survey are used to produce an accurate 3D documentation of the monuments; 3D data are used as the starting point for the analysis of the geometrical and morphological features of the buildings and for virtual reconstructions, included the virtual anastylosis of ruins or the virtual repositioning of fragments in their original context.
Researches are usually developed in cooperation with art and architecture historians and with archaeologists, who offer the needed support to the study and to the layout of virtual reconstructions.
Computers engineers have often offered their support to the make-up of applications that make informative contents available directly from 3D models.
