Biography
Klazine van der Horst is the director of the department of health professions of the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH). She has >15 years of experience in public health nutrition, especially in for children and adolescents (>20 studies published). She has been conducting qualitative and quantitative research, including mixed-methods research, in the domain of eating behaviour. She holds a PhD on the determinants of overweight and obesity in schoolchildren. Her research ranges from dietary intake research, intervention development and evaluation, to mHealth, as well as experimental research and method development. The latest development of her research focused on using digital methods in a clinical setting (a mixed-methods approach to develop a chatbot for bariatric patients and home setting like the mHealth tool ‘Kids Cooking@Home’; as well as on interventions that involve children more strongly in the development of the intervention using co-creating, co-design and participatory elements. Prof van der Horst is also the co-director of the menuCH kids stuy, the first national Swiss project to collect nationally representative data on the dietary habits of Swiss children and young people (aged 6 to 17 years) including anthropometric and biomarker data.
