Biography
I am a social anthropologist and my research has mainly dealt with the transnational features and trajectories of West African migrations to Europe through qualitative methods. My interests include Migration-Development nexus in the origin countries as well as diversity, migration policy and patterns of migrants’ integration in destination areas. In the framework of national and international projects (PRIN; EU-HORIZON2020) my current researches are carried out within an interdisciplinary team and touch various aspects of (im)mobility studies with a particular focus on the analysis of the historical, sociocultural and geographical factors of migration decision-making processes (aspirations, motivations and cap-abilities to move, to stay and to return). Recently my work is extended to the monitoring and examination of the policies and practices of migrants’ reception in Italy by exploring also the mechanisms of bordering and othering to which asylum seekers and refugees are subjected (AMIF fund).
