Biography
Emilio Malchiodi (Scopus author ID: 7003348179; ORCID #: 0000-0001-7501-3330) is Biochemist and Dr. in Immunology from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. His Ph.D. thesis was on Chagas disease diagnosis. He completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Maryland working in Biophysics and determination of three-dimensional structure of proteins of immunological interest by X-ray crystallography. He is currently Professor and Chair of Immunology at Universidad de Buenos Aires and Director of the Instituto de Estudios de la Inmunidad Humoral Prof. Dr. RA Margni (UBA-CONICET). He has received numerous national and international grants to conduct research in the field of vaccines against infectious diseases and in the interaction of macromolecules of the immune system that have led to the publication of more than 120 papers in scientific journals (Google Scholar: 5365 citations; h-index: 42), and the deposition of 15 three-dimensional structures solved by X Ray Crystallography and deposited in RCSB Protein Data Bank. He is Associate Editor of Frontiers in Microbial Immunology and editorial board members of other scientific journals. He is currently developing vaccines against Chagas disease, leishmaniasis and yellow fever, analyzing several combinations of antigens and adjuvants and studying the use of nanoparticles and nanomaterials in the development of vaccines and their impact on the immune system. He is currently President of the Latin American and Caribbean Association of Immunology (ALACI), regional organization in the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS).
