Biography
Angelo Giovanni Icro Maremmani was born on April 21st, 1984 in Pietrasanta (Lucca), Italy. In 2003, after completing his studies at a classical high school in Massa, he continued his education in Medicine, at the University of Pisa. Here, he obtained Bachelor Degree becoming Doctor in Medicine in 2009. He was resident in Psychiatry at the University of Pisa between 2010 and 2015 when he achieved Specialization in Psychiatry. He achieved a II level Master in Behavioral and Toxicology-Psychoactive Dependence During at the University of Pisa. During his residency he was Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver (Canada) where he worked in the Addiction and Concurrent Disorders Research Group at the University of British Columbia under the supervision of Doctor Michael Krausz, at the Institute of Neuroscience, Mental Health and Addiction (CIHR IRSC) and at the UBC Institute of Mental Health, Department of Psychiatry; after that he attended as Research Fellow at the "Kreek Lab", Laboratory of the Biology of Addictive Diseases, at the Rockefeller University, NY, New York (United States) under the supervision of Doctor Mary Jeanne Kreek. From 2015 to early 2016 he worked as psychiatry in a Residential Therapeutic Community for the treatment of Addictions and Dual Disorders (CeIS Onlus - Parrana San Martino, Livorno, Italia) and in a Rehabilitation center of individuals with disabilities and autism disorders (ANFFAS Onlus - Massa Carrara, Italy). Since May 2016 he’s working as Psychiatry at the Psychiatry Unit at the Department of Psychiatry, North-Western Tuscany Region NHS Local Health Unit, Versilia Zone, Viareggio, Italy. His daily work is mainly focused on clinical and therapeutical aspects of dual diagnosis individuals treated in inpatients and outpatients setting. On March 2017 he obtained the National Scientific Qualification to Associate Professorships for Psychiatry (with a validity 31/03/2023 according to Article 16, paragraph 1, Law 240/10). In February 2020 he concluded Regional "Pegaso" PhD Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (XXXII cycle), of the University of Siena.
He is co-Author in more than 100 papers indexed on Scopus (h-index 17) and he participated as speaker in several national and international conferences (organized by CIPD, ISAM, SITD, SOPSI, WAAD, AATOD). He’s Associate Editor in Addictive Disorders, a specialty section of Frontiers in Psychiatry; he’s member of the Editorial Board of Austin Addiction Science journal; Heroin Addiction and Related Clinical Problems journal and International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. He’s a member of AUCNS - Association for the Application of Neuroscientific Knowledge to Social Aims and Società Italiana Tossicodipendenze (SITD).
