Biography

Presently, I am a PhD candidate in classical archaeology studying the concept of 'peraia' through the island-mainland relationship. I am trying to analyse the politics of the seven islands in the Aegean Sea that established peraia in both ancient and contemporary conditions. My research consists a total of seven "peraia" examples dating from the 8th century BC will be examined as models. These are chronologically classified between the Early Archaic and late Classical Period. In addition to the time period, the peraia of the islands lay all the way from the North to the South on the Aegean Sea, namely the islands of Mytilene (Lesbos), Samos, Thasos, Samothrace, Chios, Kos, and Tenedos. Together with this classified time period and the limited geography, an evaluation will be made for each by making use of certain basic sources, and evaluating ancient sources.
