Biography

My academic and research journey has been driven by a deep fascination with the intricacies of neuroscience and an unwavering commitment to expanding the boundaries of knowledge. Anchored by a passion for unraveling the complexities of the human brain, my career has been defined by a dedication to mentorship and meaningful contributions to the scientific community.
During my doctoral studies, I explored the interplay between addiction and metal neurotoxicity, investigating the effects of nicotine and MDMA abuse on cognitive functions. This work, supported by grants from esteemed organizations such as the Company of Biologists Ltd and the Committee on Aid and Education in Neurochemistry (CAEN) of the International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN), earned international recognition. Notably, I presented my findings at the Biannual Meeting of the International Society for Neurochemistry and European Society for Neurochemistry in Paris, France. These efforts culminated in four research articles and the conferment of my Ph.D. with distinction.
Building on this foundation, I pursued postdoctoral fellowships at Louisiana State University (LSU) and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), where I delved into the neural circuits governing cognition and reward. My work also focused on developing innovative methodologies to study aging-related processes, including neurodegenerative diseases. Leaving my position as a Senior Lecturer at Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Nigeria, to embark on postdoctoral training in 2019 marked a pivotal step in broadening my scientific expertise and perspective.
Beyond research, I have dedicated over seven years to university-level teaching in subjects ranging from Neuroanatomy to Gross Anatomy. My passion for mentorship led to the founding of Africa Young Scientists (AYS), a non-profit organization that has mentored over 400 young scientists from underrepresented communities across Africa, fostering innovation and cross-border collaboration.
In summary, my journey reflects a relentless pursuit of knowledge, a commitment to mentorship, and a dedication to advancing neuroscience. Through research achievements, innovative methodologies, and a passion for education, I strive to contribute meaningfully to understanding the human brain and its profound implications for global health.
