Biography
I am a PhD student at the Faculty of Social Sciences at KU Leuven (Belgium) and an affiliated researcher at the Center for Studies in Mining and Sustainability at Universidad del Pacífico (Peru). I hold a MA in international development from the University of Manchester and a BA in sociology from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
I am currently interested in exploring how global and local actors engage in power relations and their impact on the governance of global value chains. For my doctoral project, I am examining why it is so difficult to promote responsible sourcing in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector in my home country, Peru. The project compares mining practices from illegal, informal, and certified producers and their connections with national and transnational actors involved in global gold production.
