Biography

I use my expertise in neuroscience, stem cell biology, biochemistry, and structural biology to engineer novel fluorescent protein biosensors that help reveal cell biological processes underpinning healthy biology and neurodegenerative disease progression. The tools I develop are used across the biological fields, in microorganisms, plants, fish, mammals, and more. Apart from protein engineering, I develop cell-culture based disease modeling platforms for therapeutic gene & small molecule target validation using high-content screening. Other long-term interests include environmental toxicology, psychiatry, and neuropharmacology, including the therapeutic benefits of 5HT2A receptor agonists and NMDA antagonists for treating mood disorders and substance dependence.
