Biography

Adults at-risk for memory loss are the focus of my research. The research has supported the shift in emphasis of cognitive aging from traditional models emphasizing decrements and losses to potential and gains. My paradigm, Senior WISE (Wisdom Is Simply Exploration) utilizes Self-Efficacy Theory to guide the interventions. These aspects include the effects of physical, emotional, and control beliefs on subjective and objective memory performance. The research projects funded from NIA, NIMH, and NINR have led to over a hundred scientific publications https://twitter.com/#!/SeniorWISEand research presentations. The evidence-based treatment funded with over $3 million of NIH competitive awards was designated as an Edge Runner by the American Academy Nursing and received the Mind Alert Award from the American Society on Aging and MetLife Foundation. McDougall’s research program was chosen for the Johnson & Johnson and Friends of the NINR video--Nursing Research: Commitment to the Public Trust.
