Biography
Felipe M. Castro Cerda is Associate Professor at the University of Santiago de Chile. He graduated as metallurgical engineer and obtained his master’s degree in materials science in 2008 at the same institution. He entered Equipos Mineros SA as heat-treatment engineer in the same year. In 2013, he began his PhD studies in a joint framework between Chile and Belgium, obtaining the double degree in 2017. His research topic is the physical metallurgy of steel, with a focus on experimental assessment of the microstructure evolution during phase transformations. He has authored several scientific papers and participated in research projects as both director and co-researcher. His teaching activities include the courses “Phase transformations” and “Mechanical metallurgy” at undergraduate level, and “Physical metallurgy of steel” and “Applied computational thermodynamics” at postgraduate. To date, he has supervised three PhDs (four ongoing), four master’s (two ongoing) and 10 bachelor theses (three ongoing). Additionally, he has been guest researcher at The University of Alberta (Canada), Ghent University (Belgium), Delft University of Technology (The Nederland) and the University of Twente (The Nederland). Currently, he is also working in applied research projects with partners in Chile, Brazil, Mexico, the United States, Canada and Belgium.
