Biography
Simona Salerno is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Membrane Technology, National Research Council of Italy, CNR-ITM (Rende, CS, Italy). Graduated cum Laude in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (2001) and PhD in Cellular Biochemistry and Pharmacological Activity in Oncology (2006) at the University of Calabria. Qualified as Associate Professor in Bioengineering, and in Chemical Fundamentals of Technologies (2018/2028). Her main research activity deals with Membrane Science and Technology applied to Health and Life Sciences, and with the Design and Development of Bioartificial Engineered Organs and Tissues for regenerative medicine, drug testing and drug delivery. She was Visiting Researcher at the Biotechnologisch Biomedizinisches Zentrum, UniLeipzig, Germany (2005, 2013), at the Instituto de Fisica, University of São Paulo, Brazil (2011, 2012), at the Institute of Biocybernetic and Biomedical Engineering, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland (2010, 2011). She is actively involved in several Research Projects funded by EC, MUR, KACST, also as principal investigator and WP leader. She is author of more than 100 papers published in scientific peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, Special Issue Guest Editor, entries of encyclopaedia, and more than 100 contributions at scientific conferences, including Invited and Keynite lectures. She serves as Scientific Advisor for funding Institutions, as Editorial Board Member and Referee for several scientific journals, Organizing and Scientific Committee Member of international conferences, and supervisor of more than 20 master degree's, PhD and trainees's students.
