Biography

Jorge Soler es médico de familia y fue profesor de Medicina de la Universidad de Lleida hasta 2018. Compagina desde hace varios años el trabajo asistencial de médico con la investigación sobre la salud de los inmigrantes que han venido a vivir a España. Presentó la tesis doctoral en el año 2007 bajo el título: “Inmigración: estado de salud, incapacidades laborales, farmacia y utilización de los servicios sanitarios”. A los pocos meses, la tesis fue premiada por el Consejo Económico y Social, que la editó en un libro en 2008. Además de haber realizado varias publicaciones en revistas médicas sobre el tema, participa activamente en investigaciones destinadas a abordar las desigualdades sociales y los grupos de exclusión.

Es miembro del Consejo de Redacción de la Revista Oficial del Colegio de Médicos de Lleida, fue hasta 2013 representante en Lleida de la Sociedad Catalana de Medicina Familiar y Comunitaria. Colaboró también con el grupo de dermatología de la CAMFiC, donde publicó en 2007 como coautor el libro Fotografía digital para el médico de familia.

En 2010 publicó el libro ¿Por qué lloran los inmigrantes? (Ed. Milenio), donde reflexionó acerca de las enfermedades de los inmigrantes que vinieron a vivir a España y en en el que se rompieron algunos de los mitos sobre ellos acerca del uso que hacen del sistema sanitario, del gasto en farmacia o de las bajas laborales.

Desde mayo de 2012 hasta 2015 fue Jefe de Estudios de la Facultad de Medicina de Lleida.

En 2015 fue elegido Diputado del Parlament de Cataluña.

En 2014 publicó El pájaro en el jardín (Ed. Milenio), un libro de relatos prologado por Hernán Casciari e ilustrado por Toni Uceda.
