Biography
Prof. Peter Madindwa Mashinini holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). He joined University of Johannesburg (UJ) in January 2015, currently a Associate Professor in the department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. Has a lot of experience in material testing and structural evaluation (macro and micro analysis). Research interests is in material processing and manufacturing techniques. Material processing is on friction stir processing and laser beam welding of light metals which include but not limited to Titanium and Aluminium alloys. Other interests involve manufacturing of components by utilizing composite materials either synthetic or natural fibers with the integration of metallic powders. He has presented his research work local and international conferences, also published in various ISI journals.
Interests in analysis of joints and manufactured components are in:
• Static mechanical properties hardness and tensile strength
• Residual stress analysis (surface and through thickness)
• Fatigue strength (S-N curves, crack initiation-and-propagation)
• Fracture mechanics (crack growth and fracture toughness)
• Creep strength
• Optical analysis (grain orientation, size and growth)
• Microstructure evolution/transformation by the use.
