Biography

Originally from the USA, Paula Fonseca is a teacher and researcher at the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, Portugal. She has been teaching English and Spanish at the higher education level in Portugal since 1995. She holds an International Doctorate degree from the University of Salamanca, Spain in the area of English Philology, Linguistics and Literature recognized by the “Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior de Portugal” (a Portuguese Higher Education Government Board). She also holds a Masters in Education in the area of Teaching Foreign Languages from the University of Aveiro, Portugal and another Masters in Education in Teaching English as a Second Language from Rhode Island College, USA. Her Bachelor’s of Arts degree is in Spanish also from Rhode Island College, USA. She is the holder of a “Diploma de Español Como Lengua Extranjera” (C2 level) by the Cervantes Institute of Spain. She is a certified speaking examiner for the University of Cambridge ESOL exams (B2 First, C1 Advanced, and C2 Proficiency). She has carried out a number of translations in a wide variety of areas from Portuguese into English. Her research interests include: cognitive linguistics, foreign language teaching/learning, ICT in foreign language teaching/learning, English for Specific Purposes and Business English. She has participated in conferences and published on these themes.

É bilingue em inglês e português. Possui um doutoramento internacional em inglês no âmbito de conhecimento de Filologia, Linguística e Literatura, pela Universidade de Salamanca (Espanha) reconhecido pela Direção-Geral do Ensino Superior de Portugal. Possui um Bachelors of Arts com a especialização em Língua e Literatura Espanhola e mestrado em Teaching English as a Second Language pelo Rhode Island College (EUA) e mestrado em Didática de Línguas com especialização em Inglês pela Universidade de Aveiro. Possui o Diploma de Español Como Lengua Extranjera (nível superior – C2), pelo Instituto Cervantes. É examinadora certificada dos exames orais de Cambridge: First Certificate (B1), Cambridge Advanced English (C1) e Cambridge Proficiency English (C2). Publicou um manual de Inglês e um guia de professor de Inglês para o 12º ano para o Ministério da Educação de Timor Leste e um artigo num livro na área da Didática. Lecionou disciplinas de Língua Inglesa, Linguística Inglesa e Língua Espanhola em Portugal (Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Universidade de Coimbra, Instituto Piaget e Instituto Politécnico de Viseu) e EUA (Rhode Island College). Possui o Certificado de Aptidão Profissional, tendo dado formação de Inglês e Espanhol. Tem efetuado trabalhos de tradução, de diversas áreas, de Português para Inglês e de Espanhol para Inglês.
