Biography
Dr. M. Farhan Shafique received the B.Eng. degree from Hamdard University, Karachi, Pakistan, in 2003, M.S. degree from the University of Paris East Marne-La-Vallée, Paris, France, in 2005 and PhD in electronic and communications engineering from The University of Leeds, Leeds, U.K in 2010. His research interests involve multilayered-microwave device fabrication on LTCC and thick-film technology, electromagnetic modeling of microwave structures, RF antenna and Antenna arrays, Ultra wideband diversity antennas, additive and subtractive manufacturing and MEMS packaging. He is also involved in dielectric characterization of materials using microwave techniques and fabrication of ceramic microfluidic devices and microwave sensors through additive and subtractive manufacturing. In 2005, he interned at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris, France, where he participated in research on blind frequency and phase estimation in short radio burst.
From 2007 to 2010, he was part of the team that constructed a £1M LTCC and microwave fabrication facility at the University of Leeds, UK. He pioneered a world-leading laser micromachining technology for Low Temperature Cofired Ceramics (LTCC) used in RF circuits. He has substantial laser micromachining and multilayer LTCC device modeling and fabrication experience. Professor at COMSATS University Islamabad, Pakistan, and director of the research center (CAST) where he founded the MCAD (Microwave Components and Devices) research group. He has also established a variety of research facilities in the field of RF engineering, including five state-of-the-art laboratories: the PCB fabrication laboratory, the rapid prototyping laboratory, the RF measurement facility, the microwave and millimeter circuit fabrication laboratory, and the Antenna test facility. He serves as a reviewer for multiple IEEE and IET publications and is a senior member of IEEE.
