Brief CV:
Michael Stich studied Physics at the Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) and the Universidad de Granada (Spain). He wrote the Diplomarbeit (similar to Master Thesis) in the Fritz-Haber-Institut of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in Berlin under the supervision of Profs. G. Ertl and A.S. Mikhailov. In 1999, he graduated from FU Berlin. Michael Stich wrote the doctoral thesis in the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin in the Dept. of Prof. G. Ertl under the supervision of Prof. A.S. Mikhailov and obtained his doctoral degree from Technical University Berlin (TU Berlin) in 2003. After two years as postdoctoral researcher with an individual Marie Curie Fellowship in the Instituto Pluridisciplinar of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (with Prof. M.G. Velarde), he worked in the Centro de Astrobiología (CSIC/INTA) from 2005 to 2012 in the group of Susanna Manrubia. Between 2010 and 2012, he was furthermore Profesor Asociado (part-time) in the Dept. of Applied Mathematics at ETSAM, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). From 2012 to 2013, he was Research Associate in the Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Harvard University (Cambridge, Mass., USA). From 2013 till 2019, he was Lecturer, later Senior Lecturer, Programme Director Mathematics (2016-2019) and Deputy Head of Mathematics (2019) in the Dept. of Mathematics at Aston University, Birmingham, UK. From 2020 to 2023 he was a Visiting Academic Fellow in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Aston University. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE, UK) since 2015. Since 2019, he is at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid, Spain, since 2024 as Profesor Titular in Applied Mathematics. He was the Director of the Third International Workshop on Nonlinear Dynamics in Biological Systems, held in Madrid in 2022. He is member of the Spanish network "Nonlinear Dynamics in Biophysical Systems".
