Biography
Rahmatullah Qureshi obtained his M. Sc. (Botany) in 1996 from Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur (Mir’s), Sindh, Pakistan. He joined as a Research Associate in a project titled, “Floristic Study of zone (Desert Nara Region), Sindh sponsored by the Pakistan Science Foundation, Islamabad, in the same University in 1998. In this project, he got his PhD in taxonomy and ethnobotany from Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur (Mir’s), Sindh, Pakistan, in 2005. He joined the Department of Botany, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, as an Assistant Professor in 2007. Based on his research and teaching achievements, he was promoted first to Associate Professor (Regular) in 2010 and then to TTS in the Department of Botany. Presently, he is working as a Tenured professor and Dean of the Faculty of Sciences. Besides, He has been handling the country's first initiative to introduce Hemp Cultivation in the capacity of Project Director since August 2021. He has developed CBD based several products as an outcome of Hemp Project. He has developed several courses in the Department and is currently teaching Plant Systematics, Applied Ethnobotany, Phytogeography, Aromatic, Poisonous, and Medicinal Plants, Conservation and Management of Plant Resources, Research Planning, and Report Writing to Master's and doctoral students. His research interests include ethnobotany, medicinal plants and their bioactivity, floristic and systematic accounts of native plants, plant biodiversity and conservation, phytosociology, and weed ecology. He published 268 research papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, 4 International books, and 8 invited international book chapters. So far, Dr. Qureshi has successfully supervised 68 M. Phil and 16 PhD theses (5 HEC awardees) and completed 12 research projects. Currently, there are 12 research theses including 5 PhDs and 7 M. Phil's under supervision. He won five research productivity awards from the Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST) based on his publications, impact factor, number of citations, etc. He is the top-ranked scientist at the university and has consistently won the Best Professor Award from the university for the last two years. He has presented 45 abstracts at various national and international symposia/conferences/workshops. He is active member of several technical committees and an editor of peer reviewed journals. Since 2013, he has been a member of the executive council of the Pakistan Botanical Society as Vice President (Punjab). He is continuously encouraging and looking forward to outstanding national/international researchers collaborating in research.
