Biography

Prof Dr Michael Becht was awarded his doctorate in 1986 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU) with a thesis on the suspended sediment transport of the Lainbach near Benediktbeuern. He continued to work there as a postdoc and habilitated in 1994 on the subject of ‘Investigations into the development of relief in alpine catchment areas’. After holding deputy professorships in Heidelberg and Jena, he was appointed to the Chair of Physical Geography at the Georg-August University in Göttingen in 2001, which he accepted. In 2003, he received a further appointment to the Chair of Physical Geography at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, which he accepted in 2004.
His research focuses on the quantification of current geomorphological process rates using modern measurement methods (drones, laser scanning, echo sounding). Connections with changes in natural hazards as a result of climate change are decisive application aspects.
