Biography
Tomás Pérez Fernández holds a Diploma in Physiotherapy from the European University of Madrid in 1998, and completed the complementary studies of adaptation to obtain the Degree in Physiotherapy from the CEU Cardenal Herrera University in 2013. In another area of knowledge, he graduated in Humanities from the CEU San Pablo University in 2007. Subsequently, he obtained the Diploma of Advanced Studies with Outstanding qualification in 2012 and received his PhD (Cum Laude) from CEU San Pablo University in 2015. Author in four book chapters and monographs, and co-author in three others.
He is Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy of the Faculty of Medicine of the CEU San Pablo University of Madrid, to which he belongs since 2000. He has been Head of Section of Clinical Stays for more than 10 years, Head of Section of Physiotherapy and Secretary of the same Department. He has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Physiotherapy Area of Knowledge since 1998. He currently teaches the subjects "Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy I", "Fundamentals in Physiotherapy" and "Management in Physiotherapy", as well as assistant in the coordination of Clinical Stays I, II, III and IV. In addition to his regular undergraduate teaching, he is also a postgraduate professor at different levels, from specialization courses to Masters, aimed at physiotherapists, dentists, maxillofacial surgeons, speech therapists and speech therapists, both in Spain and abroad (Portugal, Italy, Brazil and Switzerland). Much of his teaching and clinical specialization focuses on temporomandibular disorder, cervicalgia and headache. He is a member of the Spanish Association of Physiotherapy in Oncology, acting as a professional reference in physiotherapy applied to head and neck cancers. He is also a member of the Governing Board of the Spanish Association of Physiotherapists for Critical Thinking.
He develops his research activity in the Physical Therapy Research Unit of the Faculty of Medicine of the University CEU San Pablo, where he has participated in two projects in the last two years under the direction of Dr. D. Luis Fernandez (IP). He is currently part of a competitive research group led by Dr. D. Aitor Martín-Pintado, focused on the study of cervico-cranial motor control.
He has been a reviewer for the journal Catussaba (ISSN 2237-3608) and is currently a permanent member of the review panel of the Journal of Health and Biotechnology, both published by the University of Potiguar (Brazil). He has participated in 38 National and International Congresses and Conferences, being part of the organizing and/or scientific committee in 14 of them and as a speaker/communicator in 15 others, highlighting among his participations the obtaining of an Honorable Mention for the best communication in the IV Jornadas Hispanolusas de Terapia Manual, held in Oviedo in 2004 and the 1st General Prize for the Best Scientific Contribution in the III International University Congress of Health Sciences and Sport, held in Madrid in 2007. He received the Angel Herrera Award from the San Pablo University Foundation in 2007 for the best teaching work and the 2nd Prize for teaching and research quality of the departments of La Universidad San Pablo CEU in 2017.
Apart from his academic career, he has been practicing as a physiotherapist at the care level since 1998 directing his own center in Madrid focused on the treatment of cervico-cranial and temporomandibular pathology. He is also Coordinator of the Medical Services of the Madrid Tennis Open since 2005. He is currently Ombudsman of the Professional Association of the Community of Madrid since 2014 and was a member of the Board of Governors of the same from 2006 to 2010.
