Biography
I am a clinician scientist with a dual degree (MBChB and PhD). My research focuses on the application of functional MRI imaging in studying fronto-striatal neuropsychiatric disorders. I started off my career in rural psychiatry. I spent a year building a familiarity with psychopathology in the acute psychiatric wards in Stikland Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa. In 2009 I was awarded South African National Research Foundation IRTG scholarship (2009-2012: IRTG 1552) to study the impact of HIV on the fronto-striatal system using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). I received a PhD for this work in 2016. Recently I completed a masters in science in biomedical engineering, constructing a custom electrodermal based biofeedback unit for use in Virtual Reality exposure based therapy.
