Biography
Usha Gurunathan is a senior staff anaesthetist at The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH), Brisbane, Australia with a masters in clinical epidemiology from University of Queensland (UQ). She is currently enrolled in PhD with UQ on perioperative thrombotic changes and outcomes in patients undergoing total hip and knee arthroplasty. Her research emphasises on increasing the quality and safety of anaesthetic practice by better preoperative risk assessment, thereby resulting in improved health outcomes following surgery. Usha is the research lead in the Department of Anaesthesia at TPCH and has many publications on obesity, obesity metrics and their impact, postoperative cognitive changes, pharmacokinetics of perioperative drugs, perioperative hypothermia. Usha promotes collaborative trials in her department and is constantly involved in mentoring junior medical staff in the field of research
