Biography
Dr. Dimitrios Argyropoulos is an Assistant Professor in the School of Biosystems and Food Engineering at the University College Dublin in Ireland. Prior to joining UCD, he has held the post of Scientific Coordinator in the Research Centre for Bioeconomy, a central inter-faculty research network of the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart (Germany) and Adjunct Lecturer at the Institute of Agricultural Engineering of the same University. He holds a Ph.D. (Dr. sc. agr.) in Agricultural Engineering, an M.Sc. in Environmental Protection & Agricultural Food Production, both from the University of Hohenheim and a Bachelor's degree in Biosystems Engineering (Agricultural Machinery & Irrigation) being a member of the Association of German Engineers (Max Eyth Society for Agricultural Engineering). He has a particular research interest in the application of ICT and sensor technology to enhance the operational efficiency of circular agri-food systems, from on-farm operations right through to food and biomaterial processing. He recently led the EU Horizon 2020 SMARTCHAIN project on sustainable agri-food value chains with 43 partners across Europe. He is Associate Editor of the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers (ASABE), Advisory Board Member of the EU Horizon 2020 DIVA project: Boosting innovative digitech value chains for agri-food, forestry & environment, and expert of the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) by the DG-Agri, currently the coordinating expert of the FG35 on Plant-based Medicinal and Cosmetic Products. He is the managing editor of the Elsevier Journal of Applied Research on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, and member of the newly established European Mushroom Working Group (EMushWG). He has previously participated as principal investigator in a wide range of H2020-funded projects including ERASMUS+, ICT-AGRI-2 ERA-NET, EIT-FOOD with industry and academic partners in Europe.
