Biography
David P. Urassa is a Professor of Medicine in Community Health, and currently a Deputy Vice Chancellor for Planning Finance and Administration (DVC-PF A) at MUHAS. He has served as a Dean, and Associate Dean of the School of Public Health and Social Sciences as well as past acting Head of department of Community Health.
Professionally he is a Public Health Physician with expertise knowledge in Leadership, management and Health system strengthening (specifically Quality of maternal Health Care) as well as communicable and non-communicable diseases in developing countries.
He has a vast experience in research with detailed quantitative and qualitative assessments of factors contributing to the high burden of maternal and child mortality in Dar es Salaam. Also He has actively participated in operations research to improve clinical outcomes in community-based settings in Morogoro region in Tanzania. He has more than sixty-nine publications and technical reports in his areas of specialization in both international and local journals
He is a member of technical working group for Afya Bora Consortium of leadership Training in Health in Africa , and a CO-PI for developmental oversight of the Bioethics curricula at MUHAS . He has many years of mentorship experience to under and post graduate students (masters and PhDs)
