Biography
I am a socio-cultural anthropologist with extensive fieldwork experience in the UK, Nepal, Japan, and Australia. I've held research and teaching positions in England (Oxford and Durham) and, since 2006, at the University of Melbourne. My research expertise is in death studies, the anthropology of the body and senses, trans-cultural communities of practice, and methods and ethics in anthropology. I am Professor of Anthropology in the School of Social and Political Sciences and a founding member of the DeathTech Research Team.
I coordinate and teach subjects at all levels, including: Anthropology and Food in Everyday Life (Year 1) Keeping the Body in Mind (Year 2) Theory and the Anthropological Imagination (Year 3 Capstone) Philosophy and Scope of Anthropology (Year 4 Honours compulsory). I supervise a range of RHD students in my areas of interest.
