Biography

Zahir Tari is a Full Professor at RMIT University, School of Computing Technologies, and the Research Director of the Centre of Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CCSRI). He received a bachelor degree in Mathematics from University of Algiers (USTHB, Algeria) in 1984, MSc in Operational Research from University of Grenoble (France) in 1985 and PhD degree in Computer Science from University of Grenoble (France) in 1989. Prof Tari joined EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in 1990, where he worked on various aspects of distributed (database) systems. In 1993, he was appointed as a lecturer at QUT (Queensland University of Technology), and during his tenure at QUT, he had major collaborations with various industries, including Sparkassenorganisation GmBh (Germany) where he developed efficient tools to detect attacks in LANs. Prof Tari joined RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) in 1996 as a Senior Lecturer and currently Professor. Prof Tari’s expertise is in the areas of system performance (e.g. Web servers, P2P, Cloud, Edge) and system security (e.g. SCADA systems, Cloud). He regularly publishes in prestigious journals (e.g. IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Web Services, ACM Transactions on Computer, JSAC) and major international conferences (e.g. ICDCS, ICDE, WWW, INFOCOM). He is the co-author of several books (John Wiley, Springer) and he has edited over 25 conference proceedings. He has been PC (Program Committee) chair of over 7 International conferences and GC (General Chair) of more than 25 international conferences. Prof Tari is a recipient of over 13M$ in funding from ARC (Australian Research Council) and IT industries, and lately part of a successful 7th Framework AU2EU (Australia to European) bid on “Authorisation and Authentication for Entrusted Unions. Finally, Prof Tari is/was an associate editor of the ACM Computing Surveys, IEEE Transactions on Computers (TC), IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems (TPDS) and IEEE Cloud Computing.
