Biography

Dr Anna Papoutsi is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow (2022-2025) at the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Criminology. She is based between Birmingham (UK) and Athens (GR), and her work focuses on the temporalities of border control and forced immobility, and the spatialities and temporalities of citizenship and belonging from an urban perspective. She is interested in the relationship between time, space and power in bordered spaces. She holds a PhD in Social Policy, Sociology and Criminology from the University of Birmingham and she has co-authored the books New Borders: Migration, Hotspots and the European Migration Regime (Pluto Press) and Undocumented Migration (Polity Press).
