Biography
Thomas Eger is Professor Emeritus of Law and Economics at the University of Hamburg, Faculty of Law, former Director of the Institute of Law and Economics, and he used to be the Vice-Dean for Research and International Affairs (2010-2015), Director of the Graduate School on “The Economics of the Internationalisation of the Law” (2010 – 2014) and the Director of the international and interdisciplinary European Master in Law and Economics Program (2008 – 2014). He studied economics at the Universities of Marburg and Zagreb, obtained his diploma in 1974 (Marburg) and a doctoral degree in 1980 (University of Paderborn), and completed his habilitation at the University of Kassel in 1995. Thomas Eger has published more than 100 books and articles in the field of Law and Economics (with special focus on the economics of intellectual property rights), Institutional Economics, Comparative Economic Systems, and European Integration. He has spent some time as a Visiting Professor at the University of Frankfurt/Oder (Viadrina) and at the University of Flensburg, and provided guest lectures at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai, the Fudan University, Shanghai, the Central University of Hyderabad, the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, the China-EU School of Law in Bejing, the University of Haifa, the University of Cairo and others. Currently he is working on an international survey on open access publishing in academia.
