Biography
Joan Lluís Pijoan was is in charge of the Research Group in Electromagnetism and Communications (GRECO) at Ramon Llull University from 2001 to 2014 and was the head of the Department of Communications and Signal Theory from 2001 to 2011.
He received his MsC degree in Telecommunications from the Polytechnical University of Catalonia (UPC) in 1994 and the PhD degree from Ramon Llull University in 2000.
His topics of interest are adaptive multicarrier modulations applied to advanced HF communications and Power Line communications, as well as multiuser detectors for spread spectrum systems. He has been investigating the use of spread spectrum and multicarrier modulations in long distance HF links between Antarctica and Spain, as well as the daily, seasonal and annual variations of the parameters of the ionospheric channel.
Joan Lluís Pijoan has been the leader of several research projects concerning low power advanced HF communications with Antarctica and multicarrier modulations applied to low voltage and high voltage systems, with a strong cooperation in European Actions COST 262 “Spread Spectrum Systems and Techniques in Wireless and Wired Communications” and COST 289 “Spectrum and Power Efficient Broadband Communications”.
The Research Group in Electromagnetism and Communications has been awarded by the Catalan Government in 2009.
