Biography

Fátima Mirante graduated in Chemistry at University of Aveiro in 2001. She completed the Master studies in Chemistry and the PhD in Science and Environmental Engineering area in 2007 and 2013, respectively. After the PhD, Fátima moved to the Associated Laboratory REQUIMTE-LAQV, at the University of Porto and since then she has been working in the area of Material Science and Chemical Engineering. The research interests of Mirante by the area of petroleum and oils refining started during her degree (1995/2001), having the opportunity to develop skills in fuels analysis and treatment. From her Master studies resulted 2 publications in high international impact journals. Her PhD studies (2009-2013) gave the opportunity to enlarge her expertise in the area of Environmental Chemistry, where she carried out a detailed study of urban emissions (mainly due to vehicles). This work was developed between in Lisbon and Madrid Institutions. This work has given her the experience of an international collaboration (almost one year in CIEMAT in Madrid), and the opportunity to acquire more experience in chromatography, as well as other techniques in the area of materials and fuels. From her PhD work resulted 12 publications in high international impact journals.
In August 2013, Mirante began her research work at the REQUIMTE-LAQV Associate Laboratory (Faculty of Sciences from University of Porto), developing novel materials with remarkable application in the treatment of oils and fuels. During this period, she was involved in the participation of active research projects in REQUIMTE-LAQV laboratory in the field of coordination polymers and heterogeneous catalysts for desulfurization processes. During this period, she also had the opportunity to supervise various graduate and Master students in heterogeneous catalysis and desulfurization processes. Mirante have been working as volunteer research (09/2014 -05/2016 and since 04/2018) in the area of this research proposal in order to improve her CV. She is contributing strongly for the highlight of Clean Fuels from the research group of Materials for Sustainability and Wellbeing, from REQUIMTE-LAQV. Mirante published a total of 25 papers in international peer review journals (chemical engineering and materials area). These publications have been performed with a straight collaboration with the petroleum industry (Galp Energia) and with the principal investigator Salete Balula.
