Biography

As a child in Osage County, Oklahoma, Bob became interested in science from an uncle who was 50% Cherokee, a pharmacist, science fiction writer, and inventor. Later Bob accidentally discovered the book "Particulate Clouds" by Green and Lane at the San Diego library. His Master's degree in Physics/Radiation Biology examined inhaled radioactive aerosols. His PhD at the University of Rochester, NY, was also on inhaled aerosols. His Post Doc was at Lovelace in Albuquerque, NM. The 1970's oil embargo brought him to UC Irvine to establish the Air Pollution Health Effects Laboratory (APHEL). He has appointments in two departments, Environmental and Occupational Health, and Medicine, at UC Irvine. His wife of 50+ years, Katherine is a Registered Occupational Health Nurse.
