Biography

Nicolae Popa is Professor of Geography at the West University of Timișoara and Director of the Center for Regional Development, Cross-Border Studies and Spatial Planning (CDR-START). Since 2010, he conducts doctoral theses at the West University of Timișoara. From 2017, he is associate member of the doctoral school of IIDL of the Valencia University and Castellon University, Spain. He was also an associate member of the doctoral school of the University of Angers, France. He has carried out 42 research and development projects in the fields of social geography, political geography, spatial development and cross-border cooperation, projects financed from European, national or local funds. Currently, his research focuses on the issue of creative industries, tourism and urban regeneration, especially in the European capitals of culture.
