Biography
Dr Joseph M Kungu graduated with Bachelors of Veterinary Medicine, Masters of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and PhD in Epidemiology from Makerere University, Uganda. He has an experience of 17 years of multidisciplinary work as a one health champion, researcher and academic. He currently works as a Lecturer in the Department of Bio-security Ecosystems and Veterinary Public Health (BEP) of the College of Veterinary Medicine Animal Resources and Bio-security (COVAB), Makerere University. He is a coordinator of graduate training, Research Innovations and Services in COVAB, Makerere University. He has taught and mentored several graduate and undergraduate students in Uganda. He has been involved in mentoring graduate students in One Health Principles to combat food-borne illnesses, AMR, anthrax, hemorrhagic fevers, COVID-19. He is a trainer of trainers in Risk Communication and Community Engagement. He is a member of National Antimicrobial Resistance ( AMR) Technical Working Group and is a Fleming Fund fellow of Stewardship of antimicrobial use and surveillance of AMR from the University of Edinburgh, UK. He has also benefited from the United States Department of Agriculture Faculty Exchange Program. He plays a key role of creating linkages among the Academia, community, public and private partnerships that are key for improving livelihoods through improved health of livestock and humans locally and globally. He is a born-again Christian with an open heart to serve people.
