Biography

Born in Mexico City in 1956, Medicine Doctor, Master in Public Health, Master in Immunology and Doctor in Biological Sciences, postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Vaccine Development, University of Maryland at Baltimore, USA, in 1992. Trained at the World Health Organization Immunology Research and Training center (WHO-IRTC), Lausanne, Switzerland in 1995. Worked as Epidemiologist for the Ministry of Health in Mexico City and then for the Mexican Institute for Social Security (IMSS) between 1980 and 1985. Associate Researcher at the Medical Research Unit on Immunochemistry, Specialties Hospital, National Medical Center XXI Century, IMSS from 1992 to 1999. Head of the Medical Research Unit on Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Infectology Hospital, National Medical Center La Raza, IMSS from 2000 to 2009. From 2010 to 2019 , head of the Division of Laboratories for Epidemiological Research and Surveillance, Coordination for Epidemiological Surveillance, IMSS. From 2019 to 2021, Head of the Coordination for Research in Health , IMSS. Teaches several courses at the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM and Superior School of Medicine, IPN. Author of more than 100 scientific publications, 18 book chapters. Director of 10 doctoral thesis and sixteen master degree thesis. Member of the National Researchers System, the Mexican Academy of Sciences and the Mexican Academy of Medicine
