Biography
Prof. Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) is a nationally and internationally well-known researcher and academician. He started his professional career as a Scientific Officer at the Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI) in October 1993 and then in November 2006 he left SRDI and joined BSMRAU as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Soil Science. Dr. Rahman has been promoted to Associate Professor and Professor in 2011 and 2015, respectively. Beyond teaching, so far, he has supervised 12 PhD students (03 as the Major Professor, and 09 as a Member of the Advisory Committee) and 85 MS students (33 as the Major Professor, and 52 as a Member of the Advisory Committee) in different areas of Soil, Environment and Crop Science. Prof. Rahman has completed several research programs as the Principal/Co-Principal Investigators funded by several national and international agencies. Prof. Rahman served as the Focal Point of the USAID funded ‘Feed the Future Bangladesh Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Activity Project’, Country Lead of ‘UKRI GCRF South Asian Nitrogen Hub (SANH)’ in Bangladesh, Lead Scientist of ‘Towards INMS’ Project - South Asia Demonstration in Bangladesh, and Deputy Coordinator of the ‘Modeling Climate Change Impact on Bangladesh Agriculture’ project of Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF). Prof. Rahman served as a National Consultant (National Soil Doctor Trainer) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Dhaka, Bangladesh under the ‘Sustainable soil management for nutrition-sensitive agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia’ project during August 2021 to November 2021. He also served as an ‘Expert Professional’ of the “Rice Production in the drought prone areas of Bangladesh” research project of KGF during March 2011 to February 2014.
Prof. Rahman is keen to conduct research on reactive nitrogen, carbon sequestration, GHG emission, global warming and climate change, adaptation and mitigation strategies for climate smart agriculture, waste management, nutrient recycling, soil fertility management, arsenic mitigation, soil and environmental pollution etc. Prof. Rahman is involved with different professional and civic societies as Life Member. He is serving as the Joint Editor of Bangladesh Journal of Soil Science. He has published 131 research articles in renowned international and national journals, 01 edited book and 13 book chapters. Prof. Rahman attended many international conferences/seminars/workshops as presenter and session chair held in Canada, Denmark, Greece, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Poland, Qatar, Scotland (UK), Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Prof. Rahman served BSMRAU as the Head of the Department of Soil Science, Department of Microbiology, and Assistant Provost of Students Dormitory. Currently he is serving as the Director of the Institute of Climate Change and Environment of BSMRAU.
