Biography

I am Professor and Head of the School of Psychology at the University of Adelaide having moved to South Australia in February 2022. Previously, I spent ten years as Professor of Psychology & Affective Neuroscience at the University of Oxford. My research is aimed at understanding the nature of emotional vulnerability and resilience, and incorporates cognitive psychology with neuroscience and molecular genetic approaches. I published an academic book called EMOTION SCIENCE in 2008 that attempts to integrate cognitive with genetic and neuroscientific approaches to the understanding of human emotions. I also published a popular science book called RAINY BRAIN SUNNY BRAIN in 2012 that aims to engage the general reader with this exciting and fast-moving research field. I have a new book SWITCHCRAFT: HOW MENTAL AGILITY CAN TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE coming out in 2022.
