Biography

Dr. José Vicente Riera is a Senior Research at the Institute of Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) of the University of Valencia (UV). Additionally, is Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the same institution. He obtained a degree in Computer Science Engineering (UV, 2009) and a degree in Telecommunications Engineering, specialising in Telematics (UV, 2009), while simultaneously studying for both degrees. In 2011, after having enjoyed several collaboration grants (Ministry and UV), he studied the Master in Advanced Computing and Intelligent Systems (UV, 2011) and began his research career as a Research Fellow in Training. He holds a PhD from the UV (2023).

As a member of the ARTEC research group, his scientific interests are in computer graphics, virtual and augmented reality, simulation and motion platforms. He has been a member of the research team in 7 competitive projects (H2020, CENIT-CDTI, HE or RETOS, among others), collaborating researcher in 10 ERASMUS+ projects and has the experience of more than 80 Art. 83 contracts, which shows his professional approach to applied research and the transfer of his results to society. He has 11 publications in scientific journals, 2 book chapters and several participations in conferences. In addition, he is the author of 2 patents (1 in exploitation) and 3 intellectual properties (1 in exploitation). His contributions focus on motion generation systems for simulators and in the field of augmented reality.

Since 2015 he is Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science (UV), having taught more than 1300 hours of teaching in various degrees and more than 120 hours of teaching in official postgraduate courses. His teaching has focused on subjects related to his research area (graphics and ICT project management). He has directed several TFG and has participated in 16 tribunals. In addition, he has been a representative of the Temporary Teaching Staff in the Department Council (2017-2023), member of the Board of the School of Engineering (ETSE) (2020-2023) and member of the Senate of the UV (2017-2021). He has participated in the organisation of several congresses and conferences. His teaching quality was rated Excellent in the basic DOCENTIA programme (2015-2020) and at the advanced level he obtained 191 out of a possible 200 points. In October 2023 he was appointed to the position of assistant professor at the same department.

During the last few years, derived from the results of several research projects between IRTIC and the Valencia General Hospital Research Foundation, he has shown great interest in the field of robotic surgery and ICT applied to surgical processes.
