Biography
I hold a PhD in Sports Science, Physical Education, and Sports Leisure, with a primary research focus on physical exercise and health-related physical fitness. My doctoral dissertation, titled "Acute Cardiovascular and Hemodynamic Effects of Set Configuration in Resistance Training," explores the impact of physical exercise—specifically resistance exercise—on cardiovascular, neuromuscular, and metabolic parameters. This dissertation was awarded the Extraordinary Doctoral Award from the Universidade da Coruña.
During my undergraduate studies, I received a Collaboration Scholarship for Laboratory Training in 2012. Throughout my doctoral research, I completed two international research stays at the Centro de Investigação em Actividade Física, Saúde e Lazer at the Universidade do Porto (Portugal), each lasting three months. These stays were funded by the IACOBUS Program and the INDITEX Scholarship. During my doctoral training, I also worked as a research assistant at the Cátedra SXD Galicia Activa of the Fundación Deporte Galego.
Upon completing my PhD in April 2022, I was awarded a postdoctoral position through the Margarita Salas Program (funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities), which enabled me to undertake a one-year research stay at the Research Center in Sports Sciences, Health Sciences, and Human Development (CIDESD) at the Instituto Politécnico de Guarda (Portugal) starting in January 2023. During this time, I contributed to multidisciplinary projects focused on elderly populations and individuals with post-COVID-19 syndrome. From September 2022, I also became part of the CARE project (Cardiovascular Adaptations to Resistance Exercise: Effect of Set Configuration on Postmenopausal Women), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (PID2021-124277OB-I00). This work continues my research on resistance training and cardiovascular health, particularly in postmenopausal women.
Currently, since July 2024, I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Universidade da Coruña, funded by the Xunta de Galicia, and I am conducting a postdoctoral research stay at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), in collaboration with the Universidade Federal de Pelotas. My research focuses on epidemiological studies related to 24-hour behavior, physical activity, health, and multidisciplinary interventions in clinical settings.
Throughout my career, I have published 16 peer-reviewed articles indexed in JCR journals, with 148 citations since 2020 and an H-index of 6. I have presented 48 communications at national and international conferences, 8 of which were as an invited speaker. My work has earned 6 awards for best conference presentations and 1 for scientific publications. Currently, I collaborate on international projects with institutions in Brazil and Portugal. I am a member of the scientific committee for the journal Apunts Educació Física i Esports and serve as a reviewer for this and other JCR-indexed journals.
In addition to my research, I supervise undergraduate, master's, and doctoral theses both in Spain and internationally. I have also participated in 5 knowledge transfer projects, collaborating with national and international institutions to apply my research findings in real-world contexts and promote public health through physical activity.
