Biography

Eduardo Castro e Costa is a researcher in Design Computing. After graduating in Architecture from the University of Lisbon in 2006, Eduardo went on to work with digital design pioneer Bernhard Franken in Frankfurt am Main, Germany and Hanoi, Vietnam, where he specialized in 3D modeling and scripting. His willingness to deepen the exploration of these tools and methods led onto an academic career. As a researcher, Eduardo collaborated on a number of international research projects on innovative applications of computational approaches to architectural design, namely parametric modeling, digital fabrication and immersive virtual reality environments. Each project yielded interesting results, reflected on considerable publication, and some included collaborations with local industry partners. Eduardo’s teaching experience ran parallel to his research interests, and includes several courses and workshops on digital design tools and methods such as generative design and digital fabrication for architecture and product design, in Europe, Asia and the USA. Eduardo recently concluded his PhD in Architecture at the Pennsylvania State University, on the subject of 'Mass Customization of Ceramic Tableware' with a Doctoral grant from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.
