Biography
Bahattin Aras has served as a respected judge with 14 years of bench experience, demonstrating an uncompromising approach to legal adjudication. With a robust background in civil and criminal law, rules, and procedures, he is dedicated to the faithful interpretation of laws with deference to legislative intent and purpose. Throughout his career, he has been an enthusiastic and well-educated advisor to clerks and interns, committed to promoting justice and making decisions based on fairness and reasonability.
In 2011, he was sent to the USA to complete his academic studies and undertake language training while starting at the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors. By 2013, he was selected as a representative of the Council and participated in several international projects, including:
• Spain, within the scope of the Juvenile Criminal Justice System Project.
• Denmark, within the scope of the Role of the Higher Judicial Bodies Project.
• Tunisia, within the scope of the Fight Against International Terrorist Organizations.
In 2014, the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors recognized Bahattin's contributions by appointing him as a first-class judge.
Academic Career:
Bahattin Aras has continuously pursued academic studies throughout his professional life, focusing mainly on private and criminal law, areas he worked in as a judge. He completed his master's degree in 2006, with a thesis on “Trial Procedure in Divorce Cases from Roman Law to Present and Current Family Courts,” and his Ph.D. in 2013, with a dissertation titled "The Effect of Criminal and Civil Courts Decisions on Each Other."
His academic work includes numerous articles discussing his studies and courtroom experiences, published in various national journals. Following 2016, with the increase in human rights violations and unlawful practices in Turkey, especially in criminal proceedings and prisons, he focused on the principles of disciplinary and criminal prosecution of judges and prosecutors. He also concentrated on the basic principles of the law of execution and the rights of convicts and detainees in prisons.
In addition to his professional and academic pursuits, he was accepted into the IncLUsion program (2022-2023) at Leiden University, where he took four courses centered on human rights: Current Issues of European Integration, European Union Law: The Four Freedoms, Protection of Human Rights in Europe, and Cyber Law.
His scholarly contributions include several books in the field of law and numerous academic articles published in various journals. He also reviews articles as a referee in academic journals in Turkey.
