Biography
Carolina Real got the BSc degree in Biology in 2019 at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra, Portugal. In the same year, she enrolled the MSc degree in Biomedical Research at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, Portugal. During the MSc, she spent 5 months in an exchange program in bio and health care entrepreneurship, included in the MSc Innovation in Healthcare, with EIT Health label of excellence, and in partnership with the Faculty of Economy of the University of Coimbra, Coimbra Portugal, and Copenhagen Business School, Copenhagen, Denmark.
On her thesis project, entitled “Targeting the endocrine system to slow down aging in Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome” she investigated the therapeutic potential of a new endrocrine peptide to delay the premature cellular aging phenotype of Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS). Currently, she is waiting to defense her master thesis and simultaneously she was awarded with a Fellowship for Research Initiation entitled “Summer with Science: Interdisciplinary Research, Development and Innovation in Pathophysiology of Diseases Dependent on Lifestyles and Aging”, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) at Centre for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CIBB).
Carolina Real has also been involved in the laboratory supervision of laboratory rotations and participated in activities regarding science communication.
