Biography

Luciano Jacinto Graduated in Civil Engineering at IST in 1990. Joined the same year, still as finalist student, at Profabril SA, where he exerted until 1994 the activity of structural engineering, in the area of bridges, buildings and other civil engineering structures.

He then joined JL Câncio Martins, LDA, remaining there until the end of 1999. Collaborated in the project of several bridges, some with large spans, such as Salgueiro Maia Bridge, over the Tagus River in Santarém.

In the early 2000 he accepted an invitation to join the construction company Tâmega SA, where he developed specialized work in the area of prestressing.

In 2001 he became professor at Isel, starting the teaching activity in the subject Bridges and Viaducts, under the responsibility of Armando Rito, a well know bridge engineer. Sometime later, he also taught the discipline of structural concrete III, a discipline dealing essentially with prestressed concrete. He accumulated professional activity with teaching activity until 2006, the year in which he began to dedicate exclusively to teaching and investigation.

In January 2008 he enrolled as a PhD student at UNL FCT, and in December 2011 defended in the same faculty the doctorate thesis with the title Evaluation of existing bridges - Bayesian probabilistic approach (in Portuguese).

He was elected the coordinator of the Master in Civil Engineering in the 2014-2018 period, and in this quality actively participated in the reformulation of the course, which occurred in 2015.
