Biography

Ester holds a master and bachelor in Superior Technical Architecture from the Polytechnical University of Catalonia (UPC). She also holds a Ph.D. in Technology in Architecture, Building, and Planning from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB/UPC). The Ph.D. thesis focused on the environmental and economic feasibility of precast foundations for 3D modular precast housing. However, the conclusions of the thesis can be applied to most types of buildings. She did a Postdoc at the Innovative Structural Design section at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where she participated in several projects (some European) related to optimizing environmentally building foundations, structures and buildings, bio-materials and renewable energies. Her publications are in high-impact journals and she holds the certification of lecturer from the University Quality System of Catalonia (AQU).

Moreover, she has more than 20 years of experience as a teacher/docent in different high renewed education institutions such as the School of Civil Engineering (ETSECCPB – UPC, 7 years), the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB/UPC, 2 years) and the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e, one semester). She has supervised bachelor and master's students and she is currently supervising a Ph.D. student in the track of Architectural, Civil, and Urban Heritage and Refurbishment of Existing Buildings (UPC). She did innovation in engineering education and took part in the MOOC called the Language of Engineering (UPC) which was awarded in 2018 (ETSECCPB).

Furthermore, she has also experience as an architect and engineer in different offices and companies making diverse building projects (new buildings, rehabilitation, competitions, train stations, foundations, etc.). She is currently working as a Structural engineer in IJB Groep, which is the leading company of precast foundations in The Netherlands and collaborating in the environmental research of the company. She is also a guest at the Eindhoven University of Technology where she optimises structures environmentally (concrete slabs, foundations, etc.).
