Biography
I have completed my M.Sc and D.Sc studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, and postdoctoral studies at the Department of Molecular Biology and Pharmacology, School of Medicine, Washington University, St. Louis Missouri, USA. I developed the Molecular Genetic Laboratory at Carmel Medical Center, Haifa, Israel, and lead this laboratory last 24 years until October 2015. I am the head of Molecular Genetic Laboratory at the Department of Human Biology, University of Haifa, Israel since 2004 and teaching genetics, genetic engineering and Endocrinology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. I have published more than 90 manuscripts in reputed journals and serving as a member of the Israel Council for Higher Education last 15 years. Moreover, I am the founder and the inventor of PROLOR Biotech Company for “designing long-acting recombinant proteins”. PROLOR became a Public Company during 2007 in NASDAQ, Stock Exchange, NY, USA, and during 2010 in Tel-Aviv Stock Exchange, Tel-Aviv, Israel. PROLOR had an exit last 2013 to OPKO Health Company in USA for $480 million. I have developed a platform for developing long acting proteins, where I have found a cassette gene that ligated to the interested gene and then transfer it to eukaryotic cells for protein production. This way I have developed long acting FSH in USA and this hormone (ELONVA) is marketed since 2010 by Merck Germany.
My laboratory is interested in Human Genetic diseases, Cancer research and recombinant proteins. Recently we identified a small molecule from medicinal mushroom that inhibit cancer cell growth and induced cancer cell death (apoptosis) in vitro and in vivo in animal models through activation of endoplasmic reticulum stress. For this purpose we have registered a company “CanCure Ltd” in University of Haifa. Now We are in the stage of derivative synthesis of this molecule in order to develop it further for clinical trials.
