Biography
Dr. Helen Lugo-Méndez is a full-time professor and researcher at the Department of Processes and Technology, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Cuajimalpa Campus.
She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Iberomericana, Santa Fe, Mexico and received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana campus Iztapalapa, Mexico. She completed all the credits of the Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Faculty of Science of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, México.
She participates in the Biological Engineering undergraduate program, teaching Differential and Integral Calculus, Differential Equations, Introduction to Programming Principles, Numerical Methods, Thermodynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer, and Bioreactors.
She worked as an Oil & Gas Off-Shore Turbomachinery Consultant Engineer at JP Petroleum Consulting and MAVAZCAR in Paraiso Tabasco, Mexico. Her responsibilities included developing improvement plans and performing diagnostics on dynamic and static equipment such as gas turbines, compressors, and generators for PEMEX Exploración y Producción.
She collaborated for about three years as a Junior Consultant Engineer at Servintesp, an engineering firm specializing in energy, risk, environmental, and health and safety management.
Additionally, she gained two years of professional experience at the Mexican global site of GE Aviation in the field of Performance Engineering in Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico.
Her research interests include the efficient use of resources in a circular economy, exergoeconomic diagnostics of (bio)energy systems, transport phenomena in multiscale systems and upscaling methods, mathematical biology, and biofuels production.
