Biography
Alba Ambrós-Pallarés is a senior lecturer of Language and Literature Teaching at the Faculty of Education of the University of Barcelona. Her professional department is called Linguistic Education, Science and Mathematics. She studied a bachelor degree of teacher training (1992) and then another in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Barcelona (1995). Later on, she continued with a PhD degree in Education Sciences at the same university (2002). Between 2018-2024, she has been the Coordinator of the joint degree in Teacher in Early Childhood Education and Teacher in Primary Education at this same faculty. Her expertise in teaching Spanish and Catalan Language and Literature Methodology (LLM) is considerable. She is a member of the Institute of Research in Education of the University of Barcelona.
Moreover, since 2011, she has been teaching a course in the Research in Language and Literature Teaching master’s degree called “Literature in media literacy world”, which is one of the research lines she is interested in, revolving around the relationship between media and transmedia literacy, on the one hand, and communicative competence, on the other, in order to develop receptive and productive skills of multimodal messages. In 2008, she won the national prize for the best book of scientific dissemination with Cinema and Education (ISBN 9788478274963), awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education.
During the academic year 2020-2021, she worked at the Catalan Audiovisual Council (CAC) and she was responsible for leading a European Project called EduMediaTest, with four media regulators and two European media literacy institutions. The project developed an online questionnaire designed to carry out an initial assessment of the media literacy competence of pupils aged 14-18. In her current research group, DHIGECS-COM, she works in the field of education, communication and media literacy.
In 2010, within the teaching innovation group DIGD-DLL/UB, her project “Once upon a time: Communication on the screen” was awarded the first prize for teaching innovation by the Institution of Educational Sciences (IES) at the University of Barcelona. It offered 16 audiovisual tales on communication and non-communication to infant children. Between 2008-2017, she was the coordinator of an ICE’s working group called “Application of Research in the Classroom” (ARA) involving primary and secondary school teachers. They published some teaching materials for practitioners about how to introduce communicative Language and Literature skills into primary and secondary school classrooms (Enfilem les competències. She is the principal investigator of the awarded 2023 ARMIF 00008 "Oral linguistic competence in Catalan: attitudes linguistic and cultural in the initial training of teachers. Diagnosis and evaluation". University and Research Grants Management Agency (AGAUR). 01/10/2023-30/09/2025.
Since 2023 she is the coprincipal investigator with Llorenç Comajoan, of another autonomous project called: "Strategies for promoting the oral use of the Catalan language inside and outside the classroom in educational centers in Catalonia"(EFUOLC). Government of Catalonia. EDU145/23/000028
