Biography
Ján Paralič received an M.Sc. degree in Technical Cybernetics in 1992 (studying one year at the Vienna University of Technology) and a Ph.D. degree in Artificial Intelligence in 1998 from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Technical University of Košice (TUKE), Slovakia. In 2004 he was promoted to Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence from the Technical University in Kosice, Slovakia; in 2011 he was appointed Full Professor in Business Information Systems. He leads the Data Science research team of researchers and doctoral students at the Department of Cybernetics and AI in (big) data analytics, including text data analysis using knowledge-based approaches. He has completed more than 20 Slovak as well as international research projects, most of them as the leading researcher (e.g. from the EU-funded projects FP7 UrbanSensing and FP6 project KP-Lab, IncoCopernicus project GOAL, bilateral Slovak-German project, several Slovak-Austrian projects, and Czech-Slovak project). He is the author, and co-author of more than 40 other journal publications, two monographs, four textbooks, and several chapters in monographs. He was editor of about 10 conference and workshop proceedings, as well as one Springer book. The acceptance of its results by the scientific community is evidenced by more than 300 citations in WoS and/or Scopus databases for his work.
