Biography

I am a population geneticist specialising in biological adaptation and human evolutionary history. My current research focuses on reconstructing the genetic history of populations across Australia, New Guinea, and Island Southeast Asia (ISEA). Focal questions include 1) determining when and by what route(s) humans first settled ISEA and Sahul, 2) establishing a detailed record of subsequent movements and demographic change, 3) understanding the evolution of human linguistic and cultural diversity, and 4) exploring how humans have adapted to the diverse landscapes we now inhabit. I also have an extensive background in drosophila genetics and experimental evolution and am interested in developing and applying evolutionary genomic methods to better understand modern human disease aetiology.
