Biography

I started research at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, Bellaterra), where I did my doctoral thesis (3 publications), collaborated in other projects (three publications), and worked as associate professor. During my stay at the Pediatric Endocrinology Laboratory (Vall d'Hebron Research Institute, VHIR, HUVH, Barcelona) as CIBERER staff, I focused my research on genetic contribution to growth and sexual development (two publications). After a short postdoctoral stay in Prof. Flück's laboratory (Bern, Switzerland) as a guest, I finally joined her research group as a postdoctoral researcher (2011), thanks to an international grant from the European Society of Pediatric Endocrinology (ESPE Research Fellowship 2011) followed by another international postdoctoral research grant (Bangerter-Rhyner, Basel, Switzerland). For four years, I studied genes linked to sexual and adrenal development. Mainly, I focused on (a) characterizing and conducting functional studies of candidate genetic variants (six publications), and (b) delving into the origin of different sexual development (DSD), by studying candidate modifiers to DSD genes (one publication) and oligogenic origin of DSD (one publication). By mid-2015, I was awarded a Beatriu de Pinós scholarship (BP 2015, FP7-Marie Curie COFUND, EU) and I rejoined my previous Research group (Growth and Development Group, VHIR, HUVH, Barcelona). I continued my research on sexual development (seven publications) and started working on functional studies to diagnose other rare endocrine dieseases [congenital hypothyroidism (one publication), congenital hyperinsulinism, adrenal insufficiency (three publications] and respiratory pathologies, such as primary ciliary dyskinesia and interstitial pneumopathies (chILD) (five publications).
In summary, I have published 34 scientific articles, three scientific reviews and four book chapters. I have participated in 14 projects (three as principal investigator, one international project), and received three international postdoctoral Fellowships and seven international travel grants. I participated in more tan 80 comunications in national and international scientific meetings (two as invited speaker). I have directed a doctoral thesis on Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia that was awarded the 2022 UAB Extraordinary Prize. I was a CIBERER staff in 2008-2011 and 2016-2019 and I am currently attached to CIBERER. Currently, I am a VHIR senior postdoctoral researcher. h-index (scopus): 14. Total citations: 733 (July2023).
